Shunze Temple Champion Cap Transforms Punan Park into a New Landmark in Puyan, Changhua

Shunze Temple in Puyan Township, Changhua County gained nationwide fame after Norwegian triathlete Gustav Iden repeatedly won world championships while wearing a cap from the temple—creating the легендary story of the “Champion’s Sacred Cap.” This unique connection brought widespread recognition to both the athlete and the temple.

Driven by this iconic symbol, the Puyan Township Office launched a space regeneration project centered on Shunze Temple, linking surrounding public spaces and transforming Punan Park into an inclusive (co-creation) park. The project was funded with NT$4.4 million raised by the township office and NT$4.4 million in county subsidies, totaling NT$8.8 million in construction costs.

The highlight of the park is a giant blue “Shunze Temple Champion Cap” slide structure, which has become a striking new check-in landmark. On the 4th, Changhua County Magistrate Wang Huei-mei, Puyan Township Mayor Hsu Wen-ping, and local representatives visited the newly completed site. Magistrate Wang stated that the park, once overgrown and poorly planned, has been transformed into a vibrant, family-friendly space with inclusive play equipment and a massive champion cap as its visual centerpiece.

The county government emphasized that Punan Park is part of a broader initiative to develop inclusive themed parks across Changhua County, creating safe, diverse, and engaging play environments for children of all ages.

According to the Construction Department, the park’s main feature is a large composite playground structure shaped like the Shunze Temple Champion Cap, combining:
  • A 7-meter-high dual-stage challenge slide
  • The township’s first large zipline
  • Inclusive wood-plastic play facilities
  • A children’s adventure zone
  • A sandbox play area
Together, these elements a multi-age, parent–child inclusive recreational space, making Punan Park not only a children’s favorite playground but also a popular photo and check-in destination for families and visitors.
