Xikou Quail Park: A Family-Themed Playground Inspired by Nature and Local Culture

Located in Xikou Township, Quail Park is a themed park thoughtfully designed by Ye Chao-Hsien Architects and professionally built by the Starlight Tai team—seamlessly blending environmental aesthetics with local heritage.

With a refreshing palette of soft greens and light blues, the park harmonizes with its natural surroundings, creating a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. A carefully crafted sand play area invites children to dig, explore, and discover, filling every moment of play with delight.

The park’s signature feature—a terrazzo-style slide—stands out for its creativity and enhanced durability, elevating both safety and design. Quail-inspired forms and locally rooted details are thoughtfully integrated throughout, celebrating Xikou Township’s rich quail-farming culture and infusing each corner with story and history.

Here, children can freely play and release their energy, while parents unwind amid lush greenery and scenic views. Bring your family to experience Quail Park, where local character meets modern creativity—and rediscover the joy of nature and beautiful living together.

According to a report by Lin Yi-Chang in Chiayi, the Chiayi County Government is upgrading parks across the county.
A small park located next to the Xikou Township Office, previously equipped only with basic seating, has been planned for redevelopment by the Construction Department into a children’s playground inspired by Xikou’s local specialty—quail.

The project has a total budget of NT$7.68 million, broke ground in February, carries a six-month construction period, and is scheduled for completion in August.

Chiayi County Magistrate Weng Chang-liang and Xikou Township Mayor Sun Wei-tsung, along with other officials, conducted an on-site inspection of the park today. Magistrate Weng stated that the county government is reviewing and strengthening public infrastructure. The Quail Children’s Playground, located on Zhongshan Road in Xikou Township, sits between a seniors’ activity center and a kindergarten, and is envisioned as a shared public space for all ages.

Drawing on Xikou’s identity as a major quail-farming hub, the project incorporates local themes into the design, aiming to a renewed quail-themed park that offers residents a welcoming place for recreation and leisure while highlighting local character.

The works include a brand-new children’s play area, refurbishment of existing street furniture, pathway resurfacing, new drainage and lighting, and landscape greening. The newly added play spaces creatively reuse the original paving patterns to form quail-shaped slides and sandpits, delivering a playful, locally inspired environment.

According to the Department of Construction, Chiayi County Government, the park will feature challenging climbing and inclusive play equipment to help children develop strength and coordination.

To support the new play areas, existing facilities will be relocated, circulation routes adjusted, and original paving materials reused, improving the connection between the community activity center and the children’s playground. Tree transplantation and pruning will enhance greenery and shade, while night lighting will enable activities after dark.

These upgrades will transform the small park into a locally inspired, playful, and family-friendly themed playground suitable for all ages.
