Playground Safety Regulations

Playground safety requirements and related standards have been well established in many European and North American countries for decades and are now highly mature. Taiwan has also developed comprehensive safety regulations for children’s playground equipment, ensuring that schools and public parks meet fundamental safety requirements.

Playgrounds are spaces where children test their physical abilities and challenge themselves. The purpose of design and safety standards is to provide a basic level of protection to reduce the risk of serious injury—not to prevent all accidents entirely. A high-quality playground therefore relies not only on safe facilities, but also on the shared responsibility of site owners and parents to guide children in proper use. With correct guidance, playgrounds can better stimulate children’s physical development, interaction, and confidence—allowing their true value to be fully realized.

Playground Certification in Taiwan

Under current regulations, all public playgrounds in Taiwan must undergo testing by an accredited inspection body after construction. Facilities must be evaluated in accordance with CNS 12642 and CNS 12643, and can only be opened to the public after passing the tests and receiving official inspection reports.
