Playground Equipment Maintenance Recommendations

Playground Equipment Maintenance Recommendations
All products have a service life—and playground equipment is no exception. Because playgrounds are exposed long-term to sun and rain, plastic components, painted finishes, and even surfacing materials will inevitably experience varying degrees of aging. This natural weathering cannot be completely avoided. For this reason, we recommend the following best practices:
1. Start with durable, safe equipment and quality construction.
Choosing materials with proven durability and prioritizing high construction standards during planning, design, and installation lays the foundation for long-term safety and performance.
2. Carry out regular maintenance and inspections.
Routine checks should include:
- Loose or missing bolts and fasteners
- Cracks or damage to plastic components
- Peeling or detachment of rubber-coated products
- Paint loss or corrosion on metal parts
3. Comply with Taiwan’s mandatory three-year inspection program.
Under current regulations, every playground must undergo a certified third-party safety inspection after three years of use, followed by any required improvements.
For example, rubber safety surfacing can suffer thermal aging in high temperatures, significantly reducing its shock-absorbing performance and potentially releasing chemical substances—raising the risk of injury and long-term health concerns for children. Regular testing and timely replacement are therefore essential.
4. Consider sustainable, natural surfacing materials.
We encourage the use of natural materials such as gravel, which help improve sustainability and reduce environmental impact while maintaining functional safety.
At Starlight Tai, many of our materials undergo rigorous weather-resistance testing, including:
- UV and weather durability tests for plastic components
- Tensile strength testing for metal parts
- Comprehensive non-toxic safety testing
From product design and manufacturing to on-site installation, we strictly adhere to recognized safety standards and maintain a responsible, detail-oriented approach throughout every stage of the project.
Our goal is simple: to ensure children can play freely and joyfully, while giving parents complete peace of mind as their children enjoy the playground experience.
